How Long Should a Video Advertisement Be?
The best video ad length depends on your goal and platform. Compare 10, 15 and 30-second ads and learn when each length works best.
"How long should my ad be?" is one of the most common questions in advertising, and the honest answer is: as long as it needs to be to land one clear message, and not a second longer. Length should follow your goal, not the other way around.
Shorter usually wins attention
On social feeds, completion rate matters. A viewer is far more likely to watch a 10-second ad to the end than a 60-second one. The shorter the ad, the more of your message actually gets seen. When in doubt, cut.
Matching length to goal
10 seconds
Ideal for a single punchy idea: a product reveal, a quick hook, a bold visual moment. Perfect for top-of-funnel awareness where you just need to be noticed and remembered. Great for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
15 seconds
The social sweet spot. Enough time for a mini story — hook, problem, product, call to action — without losing attention. See what to put in a 15-second advertisement.
30 seconds
Room for real storytelling, multiple scenes or several product features. Best when your audience already has some intent, or for brand films and more considered campaigns. See what to put in a 30-second advertisement.

Let the platform guide you
- TikTok, Reels, Shorts: shorter is usually stronger; 10–15s is a safe starting point.
- Facebook and Instagram feed: 15s works well; 30s if you have a story.
- Pre-roll / YouTube: front-load the message in case of skipping.
The real rule: earn every second
Every second must justify itself. If a moment does not add to the hook, the story or the call to action, cut it. A tight 12-second ad beats a padded 30-second one every time.
Length and production cost
With handmade formats like claymation, length directly affects cost because every second is animated frame by frame. That is another reason to be disciplined: a focused short ad is both more effective and more economical.
A simple way to decide
Ask: what is the one thing I need people to remember? If it fits in a single beat, make a 10-second ad. If it needs a tiny story, make 15. If it genuinely needs scenes or multiple features, make 30.
